However, doctors say that it is possible to save the patient if he comes to the hospital on time. Most of the patients are recovering and returning home. They have enough antivenom in stock.

The only antidote for snake bite patients is antivenom injection. Many times the patient’s relatives complain that the doctor does not want to take the risk of pushing the injection. Fear of trouble if the patient dies. Sometimes refer patients elsewhere. Many people also think that the common people do not know due to lack of publicity. However, the district civil surgeon said that these allegations are not correct.

Many patients and relatives are reluctant to take antivenom and do not want to give written permission.’

Later, the family rescued her and admitted her to the female ward of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital, Faridpur. He was cured after being treated there.

Kalpana Rani Mondal, senior staff nurse of that ward told Jago News, ‘We are more careful with snake bite patients. Snakebite patients have increased in the last few days. An average of two to three patients are coming to the hospital every day. Blood tests are done as soon as the patient arrives. If the patient is found to have been bitten by a venomous snake after blood tests, antivenom is given to him.’

Resident Medical Officer of Faridpur General Hospital Dr. Ganesh Kumar Agarwala said, ‘Snake bite patients have increased in the last few months. Recently no snakebite patient has died in this hospital. The hospital has enough antivenom.’

In this regard, Faridpur Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical College Hospital FCPS (Medicine), Medicine Specialist and Assistant Registrar (Nephrology), Dr. Sharifunnessa (Jhumur) told Jago News, ‘You can’t panic if you are bitten by a snake. The affected limb cannot be moved. If you feel severe pain in the affected area, if there is bleeding, if your eyelids fall off, if you can’t keep your neck straight, if your arms and legs become paralyzed, and if you have difficulty breathing or vomiting, you should take the patient to the hospital without delay. A bite from a non-venomous snake usually causes minor pain, swelling or a small bruise.’

‘Cut the affected area, don’t tie it tightly, don’t try to draw blood or poison from the affected area by mouth, don’t apply dung, bean seeds, tar, herbal medicines or any kind of chemicals to the affected area, give antihistamine injections , burning the stung area with chemical substances like carbolic acid, can not be coated with the sap of trees and plants.’

This doctor said, ‘Snakes are generally of two types – venomous and non-venomous. Snake bite patients are also treated for various symptoms. “After admission, if the patient’s blood is tested and it is seen that the blood has clotted, then it should be understood that the snake is not poisonous. If the blood does not coagulate, then the snake is poisonous and in that case the patient should be given antivenom. Similar antivenoms are given to patients bitten by Russell’s Viper, King Cobra, Gokhra, Kal Keute snakes.’
