The family of Honduran soccer player Albertha Elise (28) finally has at least a small reason to be happy. Last week, the Bordeaux player collided with an away team defender during a match and was put in artificial sleep due to a serious head injury. However, he has now come out of the coma and is showing the first signs of improvement.
It was only the first minute of Saturday’s second French league match between Bordeaux and Guingamp when 28-year-old Elis collided with defender Donatien Gomis. After the collision, he was left lying on the ground and had to be treated on the field. He was subsequently taken by ambulance to the Pellegrin Hospital, where doctors diagnosed him with a severe brain injury, and after being put under artificial sleep, he underwent surgery.
Now he is looking forward to better times. The family of the injured footballer said that his condition started to improve slowly. “We are pleased to report the first signs of improvement. Alberth wakes up and shows signs of gradual recovery,” his relatives revealed in a press release published by the Bordeaux football team. However, they emphasized that the battle is far from won and the following days will be crucial for Elise. They also highlighted his fighting spirit.
The club previously said it was too early to predict how long Elis’ recovery would take. However, the news of his awakening was met with enthusiasm and mild optimism from the football public and Bordeaux supporters. The family also said they greatly appreciate the support from fans and the medical team and sincerely thank everyone involved in his care.
Although Elisa’s condition continues to improve, concerns about possible long-term effects remain. “We are still unsure of the consequences that may occur in the future,” said one of the employees of the club, for which the Honduran footballer played 20 matches this season and scored 5 goals.
