Sisters die after house fire in Quetzaltenango

Of the sisters minors died as a result of a structural fire which was recorded around noon this Monday, March 11, in a home located in the Chuatuj camp, municipality of Coatepeque, Quetzaltenango.

The Departmental Municipal Firefighters announced that they received alerts from the neighbors, as it was observed that the columns of smoke were consuming the property, which is why firefighting units were moved to that sector.

“The emergency medical technicians realized that the fragile construction home was being affected, so they acted immediately to put out the flames,” said Mario Upúm, spokesperson for the institution.

He added that, after controlling the situation, the two people were located inside the residence. And, when evaluating them, it was found that they no longer had vital signs.

They identify victims

The spokesperson for the relief entity shared that the victims of the fire were identified as Heidy Yamilet and Merli Alexa, surnames Pérez Puac. They were twin sisters and were three years old.

Agents from the National Civil Police and prosecutors from the Public Ministry arrived at the scene to carry out the corresponding procedures.

They control a structural fire that originated in San Juan Chamelco

The flames of a structural fire yesterday consumed a house made of wood and sheets in the Chimox village, San Juan Chamelco, Alta Verapaz. Neighbors alerted the Departmental Municipal Firefighters, who arrived with adequate equipment to put out the fire, which left no people injured, only material damage.

The flames threatened to spread to a vacant lot, but the rescuers acted quickly to control and liquidate the incident that originated from causes that have not yet been established by the owners of the property.

The owners of the house reported that the material losses amount to about Q10 thousand due to the structural fire.
