“Sirin Development” will ask the Riga City Council to compensate for the losses

Ėirsis informed that the assessment will be sent to the Prosecutor General and the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB).

The mayor of the city will invite the Minister of Transport and representatives of the airport to the talks to discuss the next course of action. “On our part, it could be a direction to return this land to the state, which will be able to use it for its own purposes, however, the state side will need to formulate very precisely what functions and purposes the land will be needed for, because most likely this justification will need to be used as an argument in possible legal proceedings. Now we also plan to submit the question of canceling the decisions that were related to this privatization process to the City Council for consideration,” said ķirsis.

On the other hand, the executive director of the city, Jānis Lange, informed that he would officially inform the investors who had purchased the mentioned plots of land, and further action would be discussed. It is planned to talk with the investor about whether it will be possible to reach a mutual agreement on canceling the privatization process, or whether the municipality will have to sue the investor for covering the losses.

The plots of land near the Riga airport were sold at auction on April 14, 2022. They were purchased for 5.7 million euros by the company “Cella investment 3” SIA, which is related to the real estate developer “Sirin Development”. Both these companies in the holding “ME Holding NT” registered in Lithuania.

The total area of ​​the plots is 389,394 square meters. They are located approximately 400 meters from the fenced area of ​​the airport and the city border with Mārupe county, in the block between Mazās Gramzdas, Kalnciema, Mīkleņu, Kārkla and Mūkupurva streets. The border of the land plots is also located approximately 500 meters from Kārļas Ulmaņas gatve, on its right side, towards the city center, and approximately 600 meters from the highway leading to the airport.

In connection with these plots of land, the former Acting Director of the Department of Space and Mobility of the Riga City Council, Jānis Vaivodus, is suspected of offering a bribe of EUR 50,000 to Jānis Meirāns, the advisor of the Minister of Transport Kaspars Briškens (P).

The case investigated by KNAB also includes a businessman, former assistant of Ušakov, Pavels Tomilin, Latvijas Televīzija previously informed.
