SINDOnews Wins First Place in PLN Journalist Award 2023

JAKARTA – PT PLN (Persero) presented awards to the winners of the 2023 PLN Journalist Awards with the theme “Environmentally Friendly Energy Builds Sustainability and Increases Welfare”. A total of 18 best journalistic works were selected from a total of 1,120 works that took part in the event. The awards were handed over by PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo to the winners at the PLN Jakarta Head Office, Wednesday (20/3/2024).

The 2023 PLN Journalist Award event is the fourth time this state-owned electricity company has held it. SINDOnews managed to win first place in the Hard News category. Meanwhile, Okezone won second place in the Hard News category. Sindomakassar won second place in Photo Stories, and Inews TV won second place in Hard News Audio Visual.

PLN President Director Darmawan Prasodjo said that this appreciation was proof of the solidarity, togetherness and same spirit between PLN and journalists throughout Indonesia in providing quality public information. “So far, journalists have helped the company a lot in providing education and conveying information about PLN’s heroic efforts in providing clean energy to the community,” emphasized Darmawan.

With the support of journalists, throughout 2023 PLN will be able to produce more than 174 thousand reports. Apart from that, PLN won 12 awards and was named Best of the Best Communications from the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN), Erick Thohir at the 2024 BUMN Corporate Communications and Sustainability Summit (BCOMSS).

According to him, the corporate communications sector is very important to bridge company information to the public. In the past, Darmawan continued, when PLN conveyed information to the media it was unstructured, too technical, making fellow journalists confused, apart from that, it was also less responsive.

“Then I asked the team to carry out a transformation. Now, the PLN communications team is much more responsive, its narratives are accurate and effective. Relations with journalists are also getting closer,” said Darmawan.

The increasingly close collaboration between the media and PLN is evident from the increasing number of works by journalists taking part in this event. In 2020, the number of participants was only around 406 works, increasing to 1,120 works in 2023.

The PLN Journalist Award 2023, involves a panel of judges who are competent in their fields, namely the Chief Editor of Kumparan Arifin Asydhad, the Chief Editor of Detik.com Alfito Deanova Ginting, the Chief Editor of IDNTimes Uni Lubis, the Chief Editor of Rakyat Merdeka Riky Handayani, the Senior Journalist Budiman Tanuredjo, the Chief Editor of Liputan 6 SCTV Retno Pinasti.

Also Content Director and Chief Editor Narasi TV Zen RS, Senior Photographer Arbain Rambey, Senior Photographer Oscar Motuloh, Senior Photographer Adek Berry. Representative of the 2023 PLN Journalist Award Jury, Arifin Asydhad, appreciated PLN’s performance in holding the Journalist Award for the past four years.

“We also appreciate PLN for implementing the 2023 PLN Journalist Award, because a program like this will be able to encourage fellow journalists to work better, create higher quality journalistic work. So, thank you to PLN,” he said.

PLN also presented awards to the Chief Editors of mass media who have supported PLN in educating and conveying information regarding environmentally friendly electricity development in Indonesia.
