The Municipal Fire Department reported that it deployed 40 people during the early hours of this Saturday, February 24, 2024, to continue working on the forest fire that affects the Agua Volcano.
The professionals of this rescue team, including men and women, work from the municipality of Santa María de Jesús, in the department of Sacatepéquez. The command post installed to continue supporting combat work is located in that place.

The work to combat the incident on the slopes of the aforementioned volcano continues, although yesterday it was reported that 60% has been controlled.
Acting President Karin Herrera reported yesterday that international aid is managed through the Executive Secretariat.
Herrera specified that support may be requested from the United States, China (Taiwan), Mexico and Honduras, consisting of personal protective equipment.
The official explained that yesterday’s work sought to ensure that the fire was 60% controlled, because it had already reached 40%.
Different relief bodies and government institutions are working to combat the fire on this volcano.
The volcano in numbers
The acting president reported that last Friday the crews working on the volcano increased, reaching 741 people.
Likewise, Herrera specified that 67 vehicles are used for the tasks required and 144 flights were managed over the affected area.
Finally, Herrera highlighted that 32,100 gallons of water have been used in this emergency.
