In a memorable day for the culture and creative development of Valledupar, the ‘Cooperation Pact between the Mayor’s Office of Valledupar and Silvestre Dangond was signed for the cultural and musical strengthening of the vallenato’, consolidating the impulse of music as a engine of social transformation, economic development and local identity.
The act held at the Sol Landscape Events Center summoned beneficiaries of the ‘Culture in your commune’ initiative for free, which allows children and young people of strata 1, 2 and 3, in the six communes of Valledupar and the corregimental area, initiate its musical and artistic training.
In this talent dialog, the Vallenato artist highlighted the effort of the municipal administration in supporting spaces for the development of cultural skills: “Very happy that our rulers are landing the needs that the vallenatos have, who with great intelligence and capacity have managed to make important projects for our culture,” said Silvestre Dangond.
The signing of this cooperation pact focuses on strengthening cooperation between the Mayor’s Office of Valledupar and Silvestre Dangond, to promote and preserve vallenato folklore as cultural heritage. This includes supporting the Special Safeguard Plan of the Vallenato, institutionalizing the Silvestrista Festival within the local cultural agenda, and ensuring that everything is carried out within the legal framework and with administrative transparency.
Mayor Ernesto Orozco Durán highlighted the importance of having Silvestre Dangond as an ambassador of Valledupar Creative City of Music, recognized by UNESCO since October 30, 2019, which has positioned himself as an international epicenter of the vallenato, an indigenous genre of the Colombian Caribbean region and Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
“Today we decorate us that Silvestre takes this message to our children and young people from cultural schools, where we have already benefited more than 2,500 of them, but we want to continue sowing that seedbed that continues to work to preserve the vallenato. Thank you Silvestre for filling us with joys and demonstrating that Valledupar is a city of events,” said Mayor Ernesto Orozco.
