Siberian bears and tigers encounter in India

GS. Jitender Govindani, a member of the scientific council in Hyderabad (India), said that in this case, the tigress actively avoided participating in the fight, because she was raising three cubs at the time of the encounter, and knowing that no injury can be sustained.

Govindani noted that the tigress appeared to have surrendered when the bear charged, and did not make any moves to suggest it was going to defend.

Accordingly, the bear also showed aggression just to show its readiness to confront the tiger if provoked and dragged into a fight.

However, when the tiger showed signs of surrender, the bear also quietly left.

The Siberian tiger, or Amur tiger (scientific name (Panthera tigris altaica), was once distributed throughout the Korean Peninsula, Northeast China, the Russian Far East and Eastern Mongolia.

This is the largest tiger subspecies compared to other tiger subspecies, and is also the largest cat predator today.

However, habitat shrinkage and hunting by humans make them one of the 10 most endangered species in the world. It is estimated that the current population of Siberian tigers is only about 400 individuals.

Adult Siberian tigers can attack even larger bears by ambushing them from trees, then delivering a fatal bite to the spine.

According to a summary at the Sikhote-Alin nature reserve (Russia), of the 44 direct confrontations between brown bears and tigers that have been observed in the wild, the bears were the victims killed in 22 cases, while the bears were killed in 22 cases. Tiger only failed in 12 cases.

Meanwhile, another study shows that bears regularly follow tigers to take their newly hunted prey.

A report from 1973 describes 12 cases of brown bears killing tigers, including adult males, and eating them. This shows that there is clearly animosity and territorial rivalry between bears and tigers if they are in the same area.
