Should it be a discount? Lidl fought with the Czechs for over 300 CZK

The German food chain Lidl hoped that its visitors would support it in winning the prize STORE OF THE YEAR 2023, where Lidl competes for the Popularity Award. You can vote from December 1, 2023 to February 29, 2024.

Lidl operates in 30 European countries and the United States of America and is part of the Schwarz-Gruppe, the largest retail company in Europe. Lidl is owned by German entrepreneur Dieter Schwarz, who also owns the Kaufland chain. In the Czech Republic, Lidl recorded a turnover of 84.359 billion crowns in the accounting year 2022-2023. Currently, 318 branches operate in the Czech Republic.

“What do you buy most often on www-lidl-shop.cz? If we are still number one for you, give us your vote here”, Lidl invited people to vote on their Facebook page.

However, instead of a positive rating, many people contributed an unkind comment.

“Never,” one of the Facebook users strongly rejected the vote. “You’re not what you used to be,” he justified his reluctance to vote.

“Lidl???? The most expensive store in the Czech Republic, has won over Czech consumers better than Poland and Germany. Thumbs down from me,” commented another.

“I won’t support you either. Reason? The quality of the products is different from the German ones. Such derivations would not be sold there,” added another user.

Among the reasons why they refused to vote for Lidl in the Popularity Award, people in the comments often mentioned the low quality of the products, the prices of the products, but also the difficulties with the operation of the application.

He pointed out that in the past Lidl offered interesting merchandise. “Now it’s still the same goods and the rest is a demonstration of bad taste and low-quality products. Imported vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products. We have Czech suppliers and very high quality and strict hygiene standards. But this doesn’t suit you , it would reduce your profits, which you obviously take abroad. Pathetic,” he summed up his assessment of the chain in one word. “So definitely not for me!” she clarified, adding at the end that she herself prefers to visit the Albert chain of stores.

In her comment, Lidl customer Ms. Monika also complained about the injustice of the Lidl store discount, which can be applied to selected products if the customer purchases more than 300 crowns. “I don’t like your novelty in conditioning the discount on the value of the purchase and I don’t think it’s right. Either you want and can give the goods at the given price, or don’t play the game. Who has the time to check if I’ve made a purchase from 300 and confirm it in the app?” Ms. Monika reproached Lidl, saying that they don’t have the app anyway and that she doesn’t want it either.

Lidl immediately replied that they offer many other discounts and promotions that she can choose from. “Good morning Monika, we offer sufficient discounts and promotional prices even for customers who do not participate in the loyalty program and do not meet the conditions of the individual promotions,” Lidl wrote in response.

Another user, Marie Krejčí, complained that Lidl does not have a page where complaints can be written directly. In her own words, she liked the chain store: “Now that’s no longer the case. What was good, the manufacturer ruined it,” she summed up.

He also criticized the behavior of the chain’s employees and criticized the discounts offered by People. “And the discounts now amount to about 50 cents on 1.2 crowns. So you literally spit in the customer’s face,” concluded Ms. Marie. She then stated that she had other options for shopping “I come from a big city and I have a choice, I will go elsewhere. And above all I discovered that small shops are worth supporting.”

Some users agree that even the mobile application offered by Lidl to get discounts does not work according to their ideas. For this reason, Facebook user and Lidl visitor Vít Otahal also votes for another chain in the Popularity Award poll. “This year, thanks to many repeated and unpleasant experiences with the Lidl plus application, I am voting for the competition. The system of clicking and activating dozens of coupons, half of which is the one activated and the one purchased , is not present in the store anyway”, he writes and continues: “The application is apparently only usable by residents in the units of the largest cities in the Czech Republic with more well-stocked shops”, he finally acknowledged.

There were also many complaints about the Lidl e-shop and the subsequent delivery of parcels.

“Lidl store disaster. The package was not delivered to me 3 times, all paid in advance. So I am out of money and goods! No one responds to emails. I waited more than a month for the package to arrive to get my money back” , added Mrs. Františka Bernerová with her experience.

Ms. Gábina Veselá also shared her experience. She arrived home with a broken umbrella stand, after which she spent three-quarters of a year negotiating with the chain for a refund. “Lidl stores never again,” she wrote angrily.
