Most children scream when they get a heel prick, and parents don’t like that either. But a lullaby works wonders.
Sleep darling…ouch!
Scientists at the Lincoln Medical & Mental Health Center (USA) played a classic lullaby to 54 newborns from twenty minutes before the injection to five minutes after. The control group of 46 children had to undergo the injection without music. The researchers measured pain on a scale of zero to seven based on facial expression, movements, breathing, alertness and crying. Children listening to music had a pain score of four during the injection, while children without music had a pain score of seven.
