In the Croatian Plitvice Lakes Nature Park, a bear bit a 64-year-old man late on Friday. The bear attacked him in the village where the man lives. A senior citizen ended up in a hospital in Gospić with a bite on his right arm. According to AFP, the Croatian police informed about the incident today.
According to estimates, there are about 1,000 brown bears living in Croatia. Most of them live in forested areas in the center of the country, where the Plitvice Lakes Park is also located. Although the bear is protected, the Croatian authorities allow the hunting of about a hundred bears every year.
The Plitvice Lakes Park has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1979. Approximately 1.5 million tourists visit it annually.
