Shin Tae-yong reveals the atmosphere in the players’ changing room after Ernando Ari’s blunder

JAKARTA – Coach of the Indonesian National Team (Timnas), Shin Tae-young explained that the atmosphere in the dressing room was normal as usual after losing to Iraq in Group F in the second round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications. Shin Tae-yong admitted that he did not want to talk to Ernando Ari after making a blunder.

As known, Indonesian National team lost 0-2 when they hosted Iraq at the Gelora Bung Karno Main Stadium (SUGBK), Thursday (6/6/2024) afternoon WIB. In this match, the Garuda squad had to play with 10 players after Jordi Amat was given a red card in the 59th minute.

The two goals against the Indonesian National Team were scored by Aymen Hussein (54′) and Ali Jasim (88′). For the second goal, it all started with a blunder made by Ernando Ari. Instead of swiping, the ball was stolen by Ali Jasim.

After the match, Shin Tae-yong was asked about the dressing room situation after Jordi Amat and Ernando Ari made mistakes. The South Korean tactician explained specifically that the Indonesian national team’s mainstay goalkeeper felt very guilty.

“The atmosphere in the dressing room was the same, but I saw that Nando felt guilty himself,” said Shin Tae-yong in a press conference after the match, Thursday (6/6/2024).

Furthermore, Shin Tae-yong explained that he would not talk to Ernando Ari for the next three days. This was not done without reason. Because he really understands the mental condition of his foster children.

“Today and tomorrow I will not say anything first because Nando is one of the players who can think deeply. “So two to three days later, Nando will definitely be back to normal,” said the 53 year old trainer.

Despite losing, the Indonesian National Team still has the opportunity to accompany Iraq to the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifications in the Asia Zone. They can get this ticket if they succeed in winning the final Group F match against the Philippines.

The match against the Philippines will be played again at SUGBK on Tuesday (11/6/2024). If they win, the Indonesian national team will not only qualify for the third round but also seal their ticket to the 2027 Asian Cup.
