Sheinbaum reveals Ramírez de la O as his bet for the Treasury

MEXICO CITY (apro).- The presidential candidate of Morena-PT-PVEM, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, revealed the first possible member of her presidential cabinet: Rogelio Ramírez de la O, for the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), with whom he could continue the same line that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador has taken until now.

This Monday afternoon, during the 2024 National Meeting of Regional Directors of BBVA México, at the Camino Real Hotel in Polanco, the Morenista assured: “You see that you cannot see officials when you are a candidate, but my first task “On June 2, I will talk to Dr. Ramírez de la O. I hope he agrees to stay at the Ministry of Finance for a while.”

This is how he responded to the moderator, journalist Enrique Quintana, when asked two weeks ago at the National Banking Convention in Acapulco, where he said that “I would think about it.”

After presenting her program titled “Shared Prosperity”, the same one that she has shown to the business leadership and different economic sectors of the country and to foreign investors in Mexico in recent weeks, the former head of government of Mexico City was also questioned about If he would propose a woman in the place that Deputy Governor Irene Espinosa could leave, on the Governing Board of the Bank of Mexico (Banxico), at the end of her term.

“We are going to be very responsible in the people we propose. It would be very good if she were a woman to continue with more spaces in public positions,” she replied.

Sheinbaum Pardo left it up in the air whether he would support Espinosa to repeat his term in Banxico, after she was appointed eight years ago by then-president Enrique Peña Nieto. She is the sister of the former chancellor of that same administration, Patricia Espinosa.

No candidate yet for the Court

Already engaged in the questions about appointments in case the Presidency wins, the moderator also questioned the Morenista about the end of the term of the Minister of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN), Luis María Aguilar, and the shortlist that could send to the Senate of the Republic, but she cut short: “we will see, we will be very responsible.”

-No, not yet.

Sheinbaum answered a series of questions from the moderator, which notably made her uncomfortable, after her presentation did not receive applause or shouts of “president!” from the regional advisors of BBVA México. “Now there were a lot of questions,” she said.

At the end, the moderator asked him if “this rice has already been cooked,” in a kind of irony regarding the statement made days before by his PAN-PRD-PRI opponent, Xóchitl Gálvez. She responded: “The process of June 2 is missing.”

And he reiterated the message that he has given in other forums with businessmen and investors: “We are going to do very well, Mexico is going to do very well, there will be things on which we do not agree, but we do put the things on which we agree. We agree and this investment vision in an orderly, planned way… I am sure that we will do very well in the coming years.”
