Sheinbaum announces the creation of the Business Council; Altagracia Gómez will lead it

MEXICO CITY (apro).- Virtual president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo announced the creation of the Business Council, which will be led by Altagracia Gómez Sierra, whose objective will be to “boost private investment linked to regional development and relocation of companies.”

The announcement was made at the end of his participation in the International Monetary Conference, held this year in Mexico, at the Intercontinental Hotel in the Polanco area.

“The idea is that Altagracia, who is a businesswoman, who has helped us, with whom we have been working for a long time, can coordinate this Council of various Mexican businessmen and women mainly and that they coordinate with the Secretary of Economy (Marcelo Ebrard), the Secretary of Finance (Rogelio Ramírez de la O), with the different authorities of the Government of Mexico, which allows this development to be strengthened.”

There will also be coordination with the next Secretary of Energy, Luz Elena González, and it will be promoted as soon as her administration begins. The new organization will be “separate” from the dialogue that the president has with Mexican businessmen.

This is a Council similar to the one created by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador at the beginning of his administration and which was coordinated by businessman Alfonso Romo.

The meeting with the IMC

During the 2024 edition of the International Monetary Conference (IMC), held in Mexico City under the presidency of Carlos Torres Vila, president of BBVA, although closed to the press, Sheinbaum Pardo presented her intention to continue building a “Shared Prosperity” as the central axis of her administration.

Speaking to representatives of multinational banks and financial services institutions from around the world, he explained that Prosperity means “sustainable development with well-being” for all.

The Morena member said that this economic development must be reflected in the well-being of Mexican workers and not only in the macroeconomic indicators of investment. This is what will be sought to be achieved with the help of businessmen, through coordination with Altagracia Gómez.

The IMC is an organization founded in 1954. It has the representation of 56 international banks from 31 countries and its main purpose is to be a forum for discussion of global financial issues, as well as to establish relationships between leaders of banking institutions, members of the government and guests.

According to Sheinbaum Pardo, “there is a lot of interest in investing in Mexico and we are very enthusiastic about the next six years that this will generate not only investment, but also development and well-being for Mexicans.”
