Apart from the main driving force Shakib Al Hasan, the runners-up Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club started with a win. Nurul Hasan Sohan’s team won by 6 wickets against Gazi Tires at ground number 3 of BKSP today on Monday.
Gazi Tires Academy was all out for just 167 runs in the face of Sheikh Jamal’s left-arm spinner Tipu Sultan. Tipu Sultan returned 4 batters of Gazi Tires for 30 runs. Apart from opener Ashikur Rahman Shibli, no other batter of Gazi Tires Academy could score a run.
Ashiq Gazi, who opened for the Bangladesh U-19 team in the Youth World Cup cricket, performed the task of keeping one side quite efficiently for Tires Academy. Shibli remained unbeaten on 89 runs off 133 balls with 3 sixes and 4 boundaries.
But despite keeping one side, apart from his opening partner Iftekhar Hossain Ifti (31), none of the batters of Gazi Tires Academy could stand up.
On the other hand, Sheikh Jamal’s opener Saif Hasan (45 from 63 balls) scored runs, but the other opener Saikat Ali (0) and Rabiul Islam Ravi (3), who came down to bat at number three, returned to Sajghar with very quick and low runs, and Sohan’s team was under a bit of pressure.
But three middle-order Fazle Mahmood Rabi (31 from 53 balls), captain Sohan (31 from 39*) and Yasir Ali Rabi (44 from 32*) took the lead with a strong hand and took the team to the port of victory 18.2 overs before.
