Pakistani media Dawn reported that Shahbaz Sharif was elected as the 24th Prime Minister after receiving 201 votes in the National Assembly. His rival PTI leader Omar Ayub got 92 votes.

Members of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazal (JUI-F) walked out of the National Assembly as soon as voting began. They had already announced a boycott of the prime ministerial election.
