Singer Luck Mervil plans to plead not guilty to the sexual assault charge currently against him.
His case was remanded Monday to Rimouski Court, but the attorney representing him virtually, Me Anne-Marie Drouin, indicated her client wanted to plead not guilty.
His not guilty plea could not be officially recorded on Monday morning as the defense must first make some choices for the rest of the legal proceedings.
Accusation of sexual assault
Recall that the singer was arrested on November 29 by investigators from the Crimes Against Persons Division of Rimouski.
The 56-year-old man is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on the night of June 23-24, 2000 in Rimouski.
The alleged victim was an adult at the time of the events. A publication ban has been issued to protect the identity of the complainant.
This is the second time Luck Mervil has been in trouble with the law for sex crimes.
In 2018, the man admitted to having sexually exploited a minor babysitter at the time of the events, which date back to 1996. He then had to serve a six-month sentence in the community. This crime also resulted in his name being added to the sex offender register for 20 years.
This sexual assault case will return to court in Rimouski Court on February 26.
