SAN LUIS POTOSÍ, Mexico.- A 40-year-old man, sentenced by the Municipal Court of Buey Arriba to only three years of correctional work without confinement for the consummated crime of sexual abuse of a four-year-old girl, was admitted to prison after the family’s appeal.
After a year and after an appeal trial, Maikel Solano Arévalo was sentenced to three years of deprivation of liberty by the Provincial Court of Granma, three months after, in the first instance, the Municipal Court of Buey Arriba only imposed three years of correctional work without internment, the independent media reported Cuban newspaper.
“I appealed expecting better results, but it was just the opposite. I am not satisfied nor am I satisfied, because I can no longer do anything. I can’t continue appealing. But that sentence still seems very light to me,” she told Cuban Diary Yelenis Pinilla Espinosa, the girl’s grandmother.
For the family, however, the new sentence continues to be light.
The aggressor is the husband of a neighbor of the girl who sometimes took care of her. On one occasion, prior to July 2023, he took advantage of her when her little girl went to her house, without the supervision of any adult relative, and there, he took her to a room and abused the victim.
The girl gave her statement to the police psychologists and explained “in an accurate and safe manner each of the actions carried out by the defendant,” and indicated the place chosen by him to “satisfy his libidinous instincts,” as stated in the criminal document shared by the media Martí News.
His report and the mother’s statements managed to prove the subject’s guilt, however, he received a light sanction.
Yelenis Pinilla, the little girl’s grandmother, then revealed that the case shows the corruption that exists between judges and prosecutors. “It is impressive and sad and because the criminal is an agent of the Cuban State Security, those are the ones they recruit, the major criminals, that type of people is the one they recruit.”
According to the grandmother’s testimony, the man is a State Security agent, something that is common knowledge in the town.
The accused, who pleaded not guilty, presented witnesses who were dismissed because they were not at the scene when the crime occurred.
