Interestingly, in the first three quarters out of four of the duel between the teams “Saldus” and “Jelgava” the same result as in the quarter was recorded: 25:14. Jelgavniki won the first and third quarters with this score, while Saldeniki won the second quarter. Emils Kravinskis started the final quarter with five straight points, but Lauris Bērziņš added a 3-pointer, which allowed the Kurzemen to come within three points of an 11-point deficit. In the middle of the last quarter, triples from Mārtiņš Šteinberg and Jānis Dilevka increased the confidence of “Jelgava”. Having gained the lead, Jelgava players strengthened their defense and marched towards the tenth victory of the season – 82:74.
For “Jelgava” this match was significant with the return of long forward Armandas Senkanas to the lineup. Senkan helped Moose with nine points in his first game of the season. The strongest under the basket was Andrejs Shelyakovs, who collected a double double with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Mārtiņš Šteinbergs and Jānis Bērziņš scored 14 points for the winners, but Kristaps Pļavnieks was the top scorer with 16 points and five assists.
Jānis Dumburs scored 17 points and grabbed eight rebounds as part of the “Saldus”. Roberts Šmīdriņš added 16 points, while Roberts Smildzės reached ten. Less than two minutes on the pitch was for Reinis Krūmiņš, starter, who did not return after being replaced in the team coached by Edgars Buikias. Kārlis Garoza played his second match of the season in Saldenieki’s long final. The former U16 European Championship silver medalist scored six points.
In the eastern division, the tournament newcomer “Salaspils sporta skola” beat the “Līvān” team without the most valuable player of the month of December, Renārs Magones, with the result of 88:69. The Salaspiliani achieved their eleventh success of the season, which is the highest number of overall victories in the National League tournament.
The “Salaspils” men were led by veteran Jānis Pozņaks, who enriched the 14 points scored with 15 rebounds won. Kristiāns Pastors was the most productive among the winners with 15 points, while another experienced basketball player, Jānis Lasmanis, collected 12 points and 12 rebounds. Edijs Stiebriņš scored 20 points for “Līvānu”, while Dāvjas Ozoliņš scored 15 points and 16 turnovers.
In the second half, Riga University Stradiņa broke the resistance of seven-man Limbaži. With 97:80 under the leadership of Krista Pīterniekas, the team marched towards the tenth success of the season, forcing the Limbažians to accept the eighth failure.
The top scorer of the RSU unit was team captain Rihards Gunter with one eye. Mārtiņš Krūmiņš and Dāvis Žilde followed with 14 points, while Elvis Šukteris and Roberts Vēveris added 13. Valdis Senkans scored 22 points for “Limbažu”, while Oto Grīnbergs achieved a double-double with 14 points and 15 rebounds. Kristaps Kalniņš also scored 14 points.
Didzis Malyševs played his third consecutive individually highly productive game, adding 32 points against “Bertāns Valmiera Basketball School” to his 28-point game against Gulbeni and 30-point performance against “Līvāni”. With the debut of Artūrs Brūniņas in the coaching staff of “Sigulda/Modern house”, the home team achieved their eighth victory of the season with a score of 86:80.
Malyshev’s closest follower was Toms ħedis, who scored 22 points for Sigulda. Māris Ramanis collected ten points and eight rebounds, while Rihards Strauts and Mārtiņš Vīņauds were one point away from reaching the top ten. Pauls Katlaps scored 21 points for Valmieri, while Markus Berkolts added 11 points.
