In the proposed budget for the upcoming financial year 2024-25, an allocation of Tk 41 thousand 407 crore has been proposed for the health and family welfare sector. This is 5.2 percent of the proposed total budget for the fiscal year.
On Thursday (June 6), the Finance Minister proposed a budget of Tk 7 lakh 97 thousand crore for the financial year 2024-25 in the National Parliament.
The proposed budget has proposed to reduce the duty on several products related to the health sector. They are-
It has been recommended to reduce the import duty from 10 percent to one percent on the import of dialysis filters and dialysis circuits, two essential materials used in dialysis of kidney patients. This may reduce the price of these products.
A reduction in duty on import of ambulances has been recommended to facilitate access to medical services. This can reduce the cost of ambulances.
6 more types of raw materials have been proposed to be duty-free for the import of raw materials required for the preparation of drugs used in cancer treatment.
16 more drug raw materials are being added to duty-free raw material import facility by API. Besides, the finance minister has recommended the addition of antibiotic azithromycin products in the notification regarding the import of essential raw materials used in the production of medicines.
Besides, it is proposed to issue a new notification for duty free import of dengue detection kits. This can reduce the cost of dengue detection tests.
