Search and Rescue Efforts Continue for Sailboat That Sunk in Italy

Search and rescue efforts by divers to recover the wreck of a sailing boat that sank off the coast of Sicily, Italy, yesterday were unsuccessful. Vigili del Fuoco explained that access to the wreck was limited due to the difficulties created by the furniture on the boat.

A luxury sailing boat sank yesterday off the coast of Porticello, near the city of Palermo on the island of Sicily. It was reported that 15 people were rescued from the boat, 6 people are still missing and 1 person has died. The Italian fire department Vigili del Fuoco has been continuing search and rescue efforts for the missing since yesterday.

The fire department announced that the wreck of the boat had been reached, but access was limited due to the difficulties created by the furniture inside the boat. British media reported that technology entrepreneur Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah were among the missing. Lynch’s wife Angela Bacares was also among those rescued.
