The Süleyman Demirel University (SDU) Physics Society will present the amateur telescopes they have made to the public at the sky observation festival to be held in Davraz.
The Amateur Telescope Making Workshop, established within the university in 2009, offers practical training in astronomy and optics to university students and citizens to help them better understand the stars and the sky.
Prof. Dr. Seyfettin Çakmak, academic advisor of the Physics Society, told reporters that they wanted to be leaders in telescope construction.
Çakmak stated that the physics community took the first steps towards amateur telescope construction in 2009, and noted:
“We have made significant progress by organizing public sky observations with ten telescopes that we have built in ten years. Since then, we have been organizing continuous events to popularize science in educational institutions in the city and districts and in villages. After receiving education, our students become educators and transfer scientific knowledge to the society. After designing and building the telescopes, we inform the society with these telescopes in events.”
Çakmak stated that they will offer citizens the opportunity to make observations with telescopes they have made at the Isparta Sky Observation Festival to be held on August 30 and September 1.
