The physical condition and vital organs of the Tsimane people hold clues to longevity. Scientists claim they are among the healthiest people ever studied.
Quoting the Daily Mail, Monday (19/8/2024), the Tsimane tribe is one of the last groups on the planet to live a completely subsistence lifestyle, namely hunting, foraging and farming.
Less than 10 percent of their daytime hours are spent in sedentary activities, compared with 54 percent in the industrialized population, and they have very little access to processed foods, alcohol, and cigarettes.
For decades, scientists have marveled at the astonishing heart and brain health of the Tsimane people, who live deep in the Amazon rainforest, 600 kilometers north of La Paz, Bolivia’s largest city.
There are no cases of Alzheimer’s among the tribe’s population of 16,000. Subsequent studies have shown that elderly members of the tribe have 70 percent less brain atrophy than those of the same age in industrialized countries.
“We found zero cases of Alzheimer’s in the entire adult population – this is quite remarkable,” said the researchers’ medical coordinator, Daniel Eid Rodríguez.
The tribe’s average hunting trip lasts more than eight hours and covers a distance of 17.7 kilometers. Meanwhile, only 14 percent of their calories come from fat, compared to 34 percent in the US.
