Greens on inflation: Positive trend is accelerating
Vienna (OTS) – “Inflation in Austria is falling by 0.6 percentage points compared to March – and that’s a good thing,” says Jakob Schwarz, spokesperson for budget and taxes for the Green Party. “We are not only rapidly reducing the gap to average inflation in the Eurozone, but this month we have even caught up with the annual forecast from the economic research institute, which expects annual inflation to be 3.8 percent. That means we are currently on the way to normality even faster than forecast,” says Schwarz and continues:
“The falling inflation in gas prices also shows that our transparency measures in the energy sector, which encourage switching to a cheaper provider, are working. This means that the falling wholesale prices are finally being passed on by companies to customers. And that is a thoroughly positive development. That’s why I would like to once again call on all political competitors to recognize this positive development. Stirring up a mood of catastrophe that no longer has any footing in reality is counterproductive. We have already seen in the past that this mood alone can have negative economic effects. If we want to put this crisis behind us as quickly as possible, we can only do it together.”
