School year 2024: it is already known when lessons will begin at a national level, according to the Minedu calendar

The Ministry of Education (Minedu) has published the program for the 2024 school year, detailing key dates, such as the start of lessons, allocation of places and closing of registrations. As well as indicating holiday periods and other important deadlines that public schools in Peru are obliged to respect.

As mentioned, after the conclusion of the 2023 pedagogical period, the submission of applications for vacant positions in state schools continued, which lasted from Monday 18 December to Friday 29 December, in person and virtually.

According to the Regional Directorate of Education of the Lima Metro (DRELM), in the public schools of the Lima Metro alone, a total of 250 thousand vacant positions are available for the 2024 school year, of which 80 thousand are new positions which add to the 170 thousand Last year.

“The first thing we have to say to parents, grandparents or guardians is that they don’t have to queue, it’s not necessary to wake up,” said internally the head of the DRELM, Luis Alberto Quintanilla, who also reported that the districts with the highest demand for vacancies are San Juan de Lurigancho, Villa El Salvador, Comas, Carabayllo and Villa María del Triunfo.

Among the questions that students, fathers, mothers or guardians have about the development of the new school year, those relating to the assignment of vacant places, the beginning and end of lessons, as well as the days on which academic activities will not take place, stand out holidays and vacations.

According to the Minedu calendar, the examination of applications will take place until January 8th, and then continue with the assignment of places, which will be communicated to interested parties from Tuesday 9th to Friday 12th of the same month. Once these stages have been completed, official registration will take place from 12 to 15 January.

According to the “Guidelines for the provision of educational services in basic education institutions and educational programs for the year 2024”, of Minedu, the 2024 school lessons will begin on Monday 11 March and will end on Friday 20 December, to give to summer holidays.

“School work officially begins on Monday 11 March 2024 and ends on Friday 20 December 2024; However, the DRE (Regional Directorate of Education) may determine a different start date of lessons (before or after the indicated date) taking into account weather and health conditions, as long as compliance with the minimum number of lesson hours is guaranteed annual. indicated in Table no. 1 of this Guideline”, reads the text cited above.

If a date other than the one proposed is set, the DRE must formally communicate to the MIUR, in a timely and technically supported manner, the motivation for the decision.

It should be noted that the document claims that the mid-year holidays are scheduled from July 22 to August 2, 2024.

“During blocks of management weeks, students enjoy holidays, while EI staff continue to work regularly to comply with the actions required during such periods,” we read in the “Guidelines for the provision of educational services in educational institutions and in the Basic Education programs for the year 2024″.
