Around 5:15 p.m., the bus from transport company De Lijn drove from Onderwijslaan into Broekstraat. For an as yet unclear reason, the bus crashed into the facade of a business, barely a few meters after the bend.
The skid marks of the scheduled bus are still clearly visible on the zebra crossing. “We were on the bus and the driver had just let someone off the bus in School Street,” says a student. “Suddenly we heard a scream and immediately afterwards a dull bang.” (Read more below the photo)

The cause of the accident is not yet clear. “Either the driver suddenly became unwell or there was a technical defect that caused the bus to run away,” the fire brigade said. “Research will have to show that.”
The damage to the bus is very extensive. “Fortunately, there is a large section of glass in the building into which the bus crashed and the structure of the building has remained intact. The wall of the building has shifted due to the impact, but there is no immediate risk of collapse,” says fire officer Peter Dreelinck.
Due to the accident, Broekstraat remained closed to all traffic in both directions.
