SC governor’s son gives up on office after fallout

In Estadão, Filipe declared that the accusations of nepotism that arose after his father’s appointment were political: “Left by being left-wing. They never did anything good in Santa Catarina, they wouldn’t do it now.”

A rule of the Federal Supreme Court (STF) defines nepotism as “the appointment of a spouse, partner or relative in direct, collateral or affinity line, up to the third degree”. The law specifically mentions commission and trust positions and has been interpreted so as not to apply to eminently political functions, such as heads of secretariat. On the other hand, the Federal Constitution establishes that public administration must be conducted according to the principles of “morality and impersonality”.

Filipe’s inauguration was scheduled for this Wednesday 10. According to the advice of the government of Santa Catarina, there is not yet a replacement name for the secretariat. The former secretary of the Civil House was Estêner Soatto da Silva Júnior, who resumed his position as state deputy.

The Catarina government advisor also specified that the governor will not comment on the situation this Tuesday. Jorginho’s official statement is expected on Wednesday 10th.

The possession of the governor’s son was suspended and subsequently released by the Court of Santa Catarina

After the announcement of his departure at the secretariat, the PSOL of Santa Catarina filed a preventive mandate requesting the suspension of Filipe’s appointment. The request was accepted by judge João Marcos Bush who, in his decision, considered Jorginho’s action a “serious damage, difficult or impossible to repair” and reported “a risk to the principles of morality, impersonality and nepotism”.
