Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York, has been diagnosed with skin cancer. She received the devastating news just six months after being treated for breast cancer. The 64-year-old was diagnosed with malignant melanoma. Prince Andrew’s ex-wife was diagnosed with this form of skin cancer after having several of her moles removed, one of which was cancerous.

The Duchess of York will undergo further tests to ensure the cancer was detected in its early stages, her media spokesperson told Sky News. Ferguson was “in good spirits,” she added.

Breast cancer after mammography examination

The duchess received the “disturbing” news a few days after Christmas, the Daily Mail reports. She is currently cared for by a team of doctors at King Edward VII Hospital, a private clinic in central London.

Just last summer, Ferguson had to have one of her breasts removed in an eight-hour operation. He had recently received a breast cancer diagnosis during a routine mammogram. She said she was “symptom-free” before the screening.
