Upcoming smartphones from Samsung Electronics such as the Galaxy S24 will be equipped with instant translation features thanks to the chips in the device.
The AI Live Translation Call feature (AI call translation) – applicable to voice calls – will be provided on the high-end smartphone model Galaxy S24, expected to launch in January 2024.
According to Nikkei, initially, it will support the languages with the most users such as English, Spanish, before adding Japanese, Korean…
This AI “interpreter” is based on the Gaussian generative artificial intelligence model and Samsung’s proprietary processor. It’s for both listeners and callers, making conversations between people who don’t speak the same language smoother, with almost no delay.
The new feature also works even when users chat with people who don’t have Samsung phones. It also displays the translation right on the screen.
Most similar translation features on smartphones involve cloud-based applications, leading to high latency and a less-than-smooth calling experience. This could change thanks to improvements in chip performance, allowing call data to be processed right on the device itself.
Samsung introduced its language processing AI technology at developer events in November and is looking to integrate it into its products.
According to rumors, Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, Galaxy S24 Ultra will officially launch on January 17, 2024. Rendering images based on leaked CAD drawings show a flat design. Additionally, it comes in black, gray, purple, yellow. It seems that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will use a titanium frame, while the regular S24 and S24+ will use an aluminum frame.
Sources from the Windows Report blog revealed that the presence of AI in the Galaxy S24 will be one of the most attractive features of the new smartphone line.
In addition to real-time translation capabilities, AI also supports image editing and improvement, selecting an object in a photo to find more information about it.
