Noufel/Hachette Antoine announced the release of the novel “Hollow Fires” by the American writer of Indian origin, Samira Ahmed.
The publishing house indicated that “in this exciting novel inspired by real events, Safiyya, that student who is fond of journalism, delves into a minefield, unaware of the size of the abyss she is approaching,” adding that “this novel, which was translated into Arabic by the translator Lara Dbouk, is suitable for both young people and adults.”
The same source explained that “Jawad Ali, a fourteen-year-old boy, is American but of Iraqi origin. He is extremely intelligent and an inventor, successful in his studies and distinguished among his peers. The police arrested him because of his new invention, and he became known among his colleagues and in the media by the nickname ‘the bomb boy.’”
Regarding the novel’s developments, data from the release indicated that “skin color and ethnicity are still a source of apprehension in the most pluralistic countries, and everyone is subject to the law except for those above it; and even if the law rules innocence, the accused remains prey to his surroundings. The authorities acquitted Jawad, but his school punished him and his society judged him. When he went missing, the event did not attract the attention of the security and media authorities for more than a few days, after which everyone turned the page.”
