The SADC (Southern African Development Community) bazaar is organized for four days at the Enara Galleria Exhibition Center du Lac Iarivo, as part of the 45e Summit of heads of state and government of this regional economic community.
This will serve as an economic, cultural and diplomatic showcase for Madagascar. Indeed, 300 exhibitors spread over 200 stands presented their creations there, particularly in the field of crafts while highlighting their know-how. They honored the specifics of each region of the Big Island. We can cite, among other things, the flagship products making the economic identity of the country to name only vanilla and different spices, clothing items manufactured by frank companies, embroidery, precious stones and cut stones and sculptures. In addition, products made from vegetable fibers such as raffia bags as well as leather items have also attracted visitors, not to mention gastronomy including natural chocolate. By way of illustration, the raffia bags embroidered with cotton and sisal wire and many other vegetable materials according to a quality design, have greatly impressed visitors, both national and foreign. The unit is sold only at 70,000 from Ariary. Crocodile skin -based items were also fascinating. The craftsmen were able to show their creativity. Indeed, there was a treasure box and bags, all in crocodile skin. The first costs 6 million ariary and the second 1 million ariary the room. Among the innovations presented, some craftsmen have designed bags from packaging of recycled candy or hand -woven plastics. Confectionery with chocolate flavored with coffee, cinnamon or even peppermint have, for their part, met with a great success with visitors, in particular SADC delegations.
800 people
Despite all this, the results of the participation during the four days of the SADC bazaar is mixed for many exhibitors, notably the creative craftsmen. Some indicate that they have sold only small articles, such as portfolios or ladies bags, while others report particularly low sales. However, they had to pay a stand for standing between 200,000 and 300,000 Ariary. However, the arrival of a strong delegation from SADC member countries in Malagasy land could have had positive economic benefits for the nation. There were 800 people in number participated in this 45e SADC summit. “Most visitors were content to quickly travel the aisles, stopping only three or four stands. According to an exhibitor, only a representative of a SADC member country stopped on their stand, without however buying, ”testified an exhibitor.
Privileged. Others have complained that they are also not housed in the same brand at each event organized for the development of the creation and know-how of Malagasy craftsmen. “” Five to six craftsmen are always privileged at the level of their location and during the visit of the official authorities both national and international. The other exhibitors only serve as a window. Most recently, we have visited the first lady of the French Republic and the President of Slovenia specialized in the field of crafts which are led by foreigners while talented craftsmen are also standing out for international plan by their professional and design professionalism in terms of quality and design artisans “, They deplore. On the other hand, the first wife of King Mswati III of Eswatini accompanied by the Minister of Tourism and Crafts Viviane Dewa, expressed that future partnerships will be envisaged for the outlets of Malagasy craft products, during his visit to the SADC bazaar.
