Russian Missile Strike Takes Out US HIMARS Rocket System in Ukraine

MOSCOW – Russia announced its ballistic missile strike had eliminated a multiple rocket launcher system. HIMARS United States (US) in Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defense in Moscow, as quoted from Russia TodayTuesday (23/7/2024), shared footage of the attack, which took place in Novopetrivka, Mykolaiv, Ukraine, on Monday.

The HIMARS system was tracked by a surveillance drone to be in a hangar in the area, before being destroyed by a ballistic missile strike fired by an Iskander-M system.

The attack is also believed to have killed operators of the advanced American rocket system.

Drone footage of the Russian missile strike shows a hangar obliterated, with secondary explosions, possibly of the launcher’s ammunition stockpile, visible at the site.

The Ukrainian and US militaries have not commented on the Russian missile strike that destroyed the HIMARS system.

The Russian military has consistently targeted high-value Ukrainian combat assets, including the HIMARS system. Several of these launchers have reportedly been destroyed in recent weeks, and several attacks were captured on drone footage released by the Russian Defense Ministry.

The HIMARS launcher system has long been touted by Kyiv as the ultimate long-range, high-precision weapon for striking high-value Russian assets such as command posts or ammunition dumps.

However, Moscow accuses Ukraine of routinely using the system to launch indiscriminate attacks on Russian territory, including against civilian targets.
