This Saturday, Russia carried out a drone attack on the facilities of the electricity transmission system operator in the Poltava (center), Sumi (northeast) and Chernihiv (north) regions in Ukraineleaving thousands of people without electricity. The company Ukrenergo reported on its Telegram channel that, although most consumers have seen their power restored, work continues for thousands of other affected people.
In the Poltava region, almost 4,000 people were left without electricity and 700 without water due to the attack in the Migorod district. The Regional Military Administration confirmed these figures, noting the significant impact on civilian infrastructure. Chernihiv Governor Vyacheslav Chaus said that energy infrastructure had been hit, but did not specify the number of affected consumers.
In addition, in the eastern Kharkov region, Russia bombed railway infrastructure, resulting in the injuries of four employees of the Ukrzaliznytsia (UZ) railway company. In total, Russia launched three ballistic missiles overnight, one cruise missile and 16 Iranian Shahed drones, in addition to one unspecified drone. kyiv was also targeted, according to the Ukrainian Air Force, which managed to shoot down 12 unmanned aerial vehicles and one unspecified drone.

In a separate development, a Russian airstrike on a playground in Mykolaiv, a city in southern Ukraine, left at least three people dead, including a child, and five others injured. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reported on the incident via Telegram, condemning the attack and calling it Russian “terror.” Zelensky, currently visiting the UK, reiterated his call for Western allies to provide more air defence systems to Ukraine.
Mykolaiv Mayor Oleksander Senkevich confirmed the provisional death toll of three and expressed regret that the attack hit a residential area. The head of the Ukrainian presidential office, Andri Yermak, also condemned the attack on his social networks, stressing that the Russians had targeted civilians.
Mykolaiv, located about 50 kilometers from the Dnieper River, has remained relatively safe from attack since Kyiv retook the neighboring city of Kherson in November 2022. However, this latest attack underscores the continued threat posed by Russian forces to residential areas and critical infrastructure in Ukraine.
