AREQUIPA, Peru – Cuban authorities recently signed two agreements with the Russian Company ARK-Technick, for the sustainability and restoration of the airworthiness of Cubana de Aviación aircraft.
In this regard, Eduardo Rodríguez Dávila, Cuban Minister of Transportation, reported on his Facebook this Wednesday that the first of the pacts contemplates three main lines of work.
The triad in question is composed of: the placement in Cuba of a stock of parts to support the aircraft in operation; the organization of a system for the repair of parts and units; and the permanence of Russian technicians on the Island to assist Cubana de Aviación in the services provided to aircraft.
According to the owner, the second agreement signed contemplates the technical inspection of Cubana de Aviación aircraft to define the scope of the work to be carried out for their registration, transfer and reestablishment in the Russian Federation.
Last December, the Cuban airline recovered an IL 96-300 after it received maintenance for more than a year in Russia and returned to Havana.
Months earlier, in September, Cubana de Aviación recovered another aircraft after four years of maintenance in Russia. That Tupolev TU-204E went “through an extensive and heavy maintenance process” since 2019.
Before the recovery of these two planes, All Cubana flights, except some domestic ones, were carried out aboard chartered aircraft. Even the airline’s main international routes to Buenos Aires and Madrid are covered by Airbus A 340-300 aircraft leased to the Spanish company PlusUltra.
