According to information on the website of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs, the country has placed former Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko on the wanted list, but did not specify criminal charges.
Ms. Tymoshenko is said to be on the wanted list along with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his predecessor Petro Poroshenko and a number of other Ukrainian officials. Russia’s independent news site Mediazona said that both Mr. Zelensky and Mr. Poroshenko have been on the wanted list since at least the end of February.
In addition, this list also includes senior officials of NATO countries, who strongly support military aid to Ukraine and imposing sanctions on Russia.
Ms. Tymoshenko and her party have not yet commented on Moscow’s above move.
Ms. Yulia became Prime Minister of Ukraine in 2005 and was on the list of “100 most powerful women in the world” voted by Forbes magazine.
Once known as “Ukraine’s gas queen”, in 2011, Ms. Yulia was sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of abuse of power related to gas agreements with Russia. Her supporters said that this arrest was politically motivated.
In 2014, she was released thanks to a campaign by her daughter and supporters. Last year, she ran for president of Ukraine but failed.
