The Russian “Sevmash” factory has completed the work of manufacturing a new nuclear submarine designed for the army.
The RT website quoted a statement issued by the factory’s press service as saying: The manufacturing work of the Prince Pogarsky submarine, which belongs to the “Borey A” class of nuclear missile-carrying submarines, has been completed, noting that a ceremony was held on this occasion attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Navy, Admiral Nikolai Yevmenov. A number of Russian government and military figures, and representatives of ship and submarine manufacturing companies in Russia.
During the celebration, Yevmenov pointed out that the new nuclear submarine obtained the best technologies that were developed according to local expertise in the submarine industry, and that the expertise possessed by the experts and scientists in Sevmash will contribute to keeping pace with the rapid development of scientific and technological progress and moving it forward in several fields.
After removing the submarine from the manufacturing workshop and lowering it into the water, it will undergo several stages of testing before being delivered to the Northern Fleet in the Russian army.
The Russian “Borey A” submarines are distinguished by their advanced sonar systems that have the ability to detect different types of targets, including ships, submarines, torpedoes, and objects moving under water. They can also measure the thickness of ice in the Arctic regions to help submarines find openings to launch ballistic missiles. It is armed with 16 Bulava intercontinental missiles, and is equipped with systems to launch 533 mm torpedoes.
