The Minister of Youth and Sports, Rui Falcão, said this Friday, in Luanda, that the presence of the best players is necessary for Angola to win the African Basketball Championship “Afrobasket’2025”.
Speaking to the press, at the end of the audience given to player Bruno Fernando, from the NBA’s Atlanta Hawks, he said that whoever organizes it aims to win, but that the presence of the best players is necessary for this to happen.
“Our intention is to win, but we need to have the best players representing the team, because without that it becomes more difficult”, he reiterated.
Bruno Fernando once again showed himself available for the National Team, adding that it was a “dream” to play the continental competition at home and consequently win it.
Angola will host the competition for the fourth time, after the 1989, 1999 and 2007 editions, the latter in an unprecedented way, in four cities.
The country dominates the continent with 11 titles, the last obtained in 2013, in Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), with coach Paulo Macedo.
The first trophy was won in Luanda, in 1989, under the guidance of coach Victorino Cunha. WR/MC
