The news of the death of Roy Jones Jr’s son is very sad for the boxer who has to face several obstacles in his life. Jones even revealed how harsh his father’s upbringing was, who was a war veteran.
Despite this, Jones instilled discipline in him. He described the treatment he received as ‘harsh’.
It didn’t stop there, Jones also suffered at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul. Despite appearing to dominate his opponent, Park Si-hun, Jones had to settle for getting a silver medal.
Roy Jones Jr. eventually became a four-division champion with titles in four weight classes, including middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight titles. Since retiring, he has helped train boxers, most notably Chris Eubank Jr.
While that may be the case, he did have a boxing fight last year when he faced Anthony Pettis. However, Jones lost to MMA fighter that’s in surprising results.
“For me, I like to come and entertain the fans. My job is to come in and make sure that the fans get what they paid for, and I’m fine with that. I think it’s a good fight. “He did a good job and fought a very smart fight,” said Jones as quoted by Boxingnews.
“I think I educated him and taught him a lot of things in this fight. So, I think if I fight him again it will be even better because he knows more now. I think this would be a really good rematch. I don’t do show-offs, I fight real fights. I’m not a show off, I’m a real person. I want to win, or I want to lose. But I will try my hardest, and I want to be able to do it again as many times as I want,” Jones said.
Although Jones has created a great legacy in the sport of boxing, he is now facing the most difficult moment in his life, the loss of his son to suicide.
