With the proliferation of skyscrapers, rope access technicians working in business lines such as exterior cleaning and maintenance work are working at heights of meters in Atakule, the symbol of the capital.
Rope access technicians, who work overtime using mountaineering techniques tens of meters above the ground, carry out the maintenance, repair and window cleaning of Ankara’s iconic structure, Atakule, using ropes.
Stating that they became rope access technicians with the IRATA Level 3 certificate they received after taking lessons from instructors from abroad, Ahmet Çolak stated that he has been working for about 10 years and said, “For us, safety is one of the most important factors here. We descend from at least two points. The reason for this is that our main line “If this does not happen, the work we do is high-risk and may result in death. We take all safety precautions for this,” he said.
“It feels very special”
Stating that it is an honor to work at the symbol point of the capital, Çolak said, “This place feels very special. One of the main reasons is that it bears the name of our ancestor. In addition, it is requested to be cleaned completely by both us and the management on a regular basis. The cleaning of the tower is completed in an average of 5-7 days.” .
“The factor that affects us the most is wind”
Pointing out that there is no room for error in the work they do, Çolak stated that weather conditions also create difficulties and said, “The most important thing is wind and temperature. We do not do much field work in winter. The reason is that window cleaning and maintenance work is very difficult in minus degrees. We usually do our work in spring and summer.” “The factor that affects us the most and does not allow us to work is the wind. If the wind exceeds 8-10 meters/second on average, we stop our work,” he said. – ANKARA
