José Mourinho is no longer the manager of AS Roma. Sunday’s league defeat away to Milan (3-1) was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
Halfway through the competition, Roma are only 9th in the Serie A standings. In the Europa League the club had to settle for second place in the group, behind Slavia Prague.
These are not the results the Italian capital has in mind. After 2.5 years, Roma bid farewell to Mourinho, who won a prize – the Conference League in the 2021-2022 season. At the end of last season, the Europa League final was lost to Sevilla in Budapest.
“At AS Roma we want to thank José Mourinho for the passion and commitment he has always shown,” said the owners of the American club Dan and Ryan Friedkin.
“However, we believe that, in the interests of the club, an immediate change is necessary.”
It is not yet clear who should bring the team out of the doldrums.
Roma is the team of Red Devil Romelu Lukaku, who has scored 14 goals this season: 8 in Serie A, 5 in the Europa League and 1 in the Cup.
