Romania will build a new airport 40 km from Ruse – 2024-05-30 01:32:43

This airport, 43 km from the country of Bulgaria and 40 km from the Danube city of Rousse, is planning to leave Romania, according to information published on the official page of Sector 4 of the Municipality of Bucharest. It will be located in the immediate vicinity of the village of Adunatsi-Kopucheni in Gyurgevo district, BTA reported.

The point is estimated to be worth around 2 billion euros. Construction is expected to begin in the fall of 2025, and the airport is expected to be ready in 2029.

“The intention of the project dates back to 1973. Together we took the first step with French partners from Setec, who have extensive experience in the study, design and construction of airports worldwide, both in Europe and in South America, Africa and Asia,” informed Daniel Balutsa, Mayor of Sector 4 in Bucharest.

Bucharest-Sud Airport will be able to serve over 11 million passengers and allow air transport of at least 30,000 tons of cargo. It will have a terminal area of approximately 81,000 square meters, it will also have passenger parking with a capacity of 4,500 meters, support hangars, ground handling equipment and trains.

“This airport will be a point of connection with the neighboring country, Bulgaria, also a new member of the Schengen area. Our studies show that there are passengers from Bulgaria who use Otopeni Airport (in Bucharest) and who could benefit from the new airport in the future,” says Aurelian Van Hecke, project manager.

He also commented that when the construction of the airport is completed, Bulgaria and Romania will also have Schengen land borders and the airport will become a “strategic hub”, a crucial gateway for international travel and trade, facilitating the continuous movement of goods and passengers .
