Twenty years have passed since the first edition of the Rockódromo festival in the former Valparaíso prison. Now, a series of public concerts will mark the route towards the celebration of the two decades of this national music festival, with a presence in the 16 regions of the country and bringing together 90 bands and soloists from the Rock and Popular Music Schools of the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage: this is how the Rockódromo 2024 Festival Network kicks off.

The 16 festivals will take place between July and December. The first is in the Atacama Region, where on Friday 19 July (from 7:00 pm) a new edition of the Ventana del Desierto festival will be held at the Atacama Cultural Centre. The closing event will have its final stop in Valparaíso, with a new edition of Rockódromo, between 11 and 15 December.

“This Network allows us to recognize the new bands and solo artists of contemporary Chile, selected from the training cycles of the Schools of Rock and Popular Music. These are unique festivals, with musical projects that demonstrate the power of local creation, with free access for all citizens,” says the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Carolina Arredondo.

National selection

Last June, the Rock Schools training cycles were held. 803 bands and soloists from all over the country took part in the classes taught by Pascuala Ilabaca, Fernando Milagros, Claudio Narea, Mauricio Redolés, C-Funk, Melisa Toro, Rocío Peña and Ilse Farías. Later, the same team of teachers selected the 90 groups that now make up the Rockódromo Festival Network.

Once the festivals in each region have been held, a jury will choose one or more regional representatives to travel and perform at the Rockódromo festival in Valparaíso. In addition, each event of the Rockódromo Festival Network will feature guest artists. Some of those confirmed so far are: Los Tres, La Brígida Orquesta, Camila Moreno, Pascuala Ilabaca & Fauna, Friolento, Fernando Milagros and Cristóbal Briceño.
