NASHVILLE – Jon Bon Jovi was praised by Nashville police after the rock star helped talk a suicidal woman off the edge of a bridge.

The incident occurred on the city’s Seigenthaler pedestrian bridge on Tuesday evening (10/9/2024), which spans the Cumberland River.

In the surveillance camera footage, the woman is seen climbing over the bridge railing and standing on the edge on the other side.

Bon Jovi is seen chatting calmly with the woman, before he and a friend help her back to the railing.

Then, Bon Jovi hugged her warmly and walked with her back across the bridge.

“We all need to help each other keep each other safe,” Police Chief John Drake said in a statement shared on X.

Bon Jovi was widely praised on social media, with one user posting on his Instagram page, “From everyone who has struggled, thank you for stopping.”

Bon Jovi founder and vocalist, 62, released his 16th studio album with the group earlier this year, Forever, which reached the Top 5 in the US and UK.

He has struggled with his voice in recent years, with damaged vocal cords leaving him unable to tour.

“I’m more than capable of singing again. Now, the standard is: can I sing two-and-a-half hours a night, four nights a week? The answer is no,” he told the Guardian in June.

Bon Jovi is known for his social conscience. As a philanthropist, he has helped those on low incomes, opened four of his Soul Kitchen restaurants on a pay-what-you-want scheme, and funded housing and health initiatives.
