Around 11 sectors where urban transport circulates – in the city of Loja – are impassable due to the poor condition of the roads. Transporters point out that they have requested municipal intervention, but the responses are few, so – as a measure – they shorten the service.
Circumstances
As well as the damage in the Unimax sector, via Loja-Cuenca, in the Carigán neighborhood, north of the city; The units of the Consortium of Urban Transporters of the City of Loja have been suffering other adversities in terms of roads: there are other places where the roads make it impossible to circulate and provide the service normally.
Edwin Patricio Chuncho Chamba, president of the Consortium, told Diario Crónica that in sectors such as Julio Ordóñez, where they have carried out sewage work and have left the road in terrible conditions; Esteban Godoy, behind the general cemetery; from Palmeras towards Calvario; They have already suggested that the Municipality make the respective conduits for rainwater.
In addition, Samana, Jipiro and Jipiro Mirador, in that last place, particularly at the end of the stop, have complications when turning, even buses have escaped falling into the river; Zalapa, Virgempamba, Lolita Samaniego, El Plateado and Borja, in the case of this neighborhood, “it is a never-ending story, because the road has huge ditches, the same ones that so far have not been fixed,” he said.
Damage
Limiting the urban transportation service generates discomfort among citizens, but the costs are onerous in terms of corrective maintenance of the units. “The buses are heavy and that weight doubles when, during peak hours, they are full of students; As a result, when falling into a ditch, the blow is strong,” he stated.
Arrangements under pressure
The president mentioned that the decision to suspend the service to Carigán was because last Sunday, a transport unit – working normally – suffered two broken windows, with a repair cost of more than USD 800, resources that do not exist; Now, based on pressure, the Municipality has begun to maintain this road.
He added that, in addition to that, the bodywork, suspension, leaf springs, shock absorbers, among others, are damaged.
No damage
“The outrageous thing is that, when going to registration, they request that the entire vehicle be in good condition, but the road does not provide the conditions to preserve that aspect,” he pointed out.
It was learned from the Municipality that they maintain the roads in sectors where buses cross, after planning. (YO)
