A week after the renovation work of Banglabazar-Dudhkhali road of Madaripur Sadar Upazila was completed, the carpeting is coming up. Locals complain that this is happening due to the use of low-quality materials.
According to local and LGED sources, this year under the supervision of the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) under the GOB maintenance project, about four kilometers of potholed roads were approved. Madaripur Sadar Upazila Banglabazar-Dudkhali road road renovation work at a cost of Tk 1 crore 28 lakh. The work is done by the contractor BK Enterprises. However, a week after the completion of the work, the pitch casting of various parts of the road is coming up.
Locals complain that the pitch casting (carpeting) of some parts of the road has been removed before the work was completed due to the renovation of the road using low-quality materials. Low quality materials have been used in the renovation work including stone, bitumen. As a result, this carpeting has been lifted in many places due to traffic.
Several people including local Nirab Hossain, Kamal Hossain, Chalam Mia said that the contractor’s people worked without cleaning the leaves and garbage while doing the renovation work. Low quality materials used. That’s why the carpeting goes up with the hand.
Arifur Rahman Molla, the owner of the contracting company accused in this regard, said, ‘Six engineers looked after the work while working. The work has been done according to the rules. There was no irregularity in the work.’
Madaripur LGED Executive Engineer Badal Chandra Kritharnia said, we will go to the spot. If any irregularities are found, the contractor will redo the work. Otherwise we will take necessary action.
