After observing almost a month of political truce, the Rodoben’ny mpanohitra ho an’ny demokrasia eto Madagasikara (RMDM), a political platform led by former president Marc Ravalomanana, intends to resume its political activities. He is meeting his members this Wednesday in Bel’Air to mark his return to politics. The opportunity for the leaders of the movement to define and redefine its strategy in order to pursue its demands. In any case, the RMDM has shared and supported, from the beginning, the causes of the Candidates’ Collective and has opted for concrete and more aggressive actions to make things happen.
Break eggs. Should we recall that during his speech in Andohanimandroseza on November 30, Pastor Edouard Tsarahame, number 2 of the movement, made it clear that “it is time to break eggs”, alluding to ” peaceful marches » from the Candidates’ Collective. Indeed, the leaders of the Candidates’ Collective insisted that after months of demonstrations, not even an egg has been broken. Faced with the failure of this strategy, deemed too peaceful by the hardest wing of the opposition, and with the re-election of Andry Rajoelina, the number one of the RMDM wanted to move on to another stage. This Wednesday’s meeting will reveal what the RMDM wants to undertake this year and for the next five years.
Eternal opponent. In any case, in five years of existence, the RMDM has not succeeded in turning things around. If the movement is reduced to barbs and shocking declarations from its leader, it is running out of ideas to make itself heard. Besides this, the RMDM should strengthen itself if it wants to have influence on the political scene. In 5 years of existence, the movement has lost elements. Alain Andriamiseza, founder of the RMDM, has in fact left the ship to set up a new platform with more moderate speeches. At the risk of remaining an eternal opponent, the RMDM should find and offer other things to its supporters for the next 5 years.
