Rice bacteria causes genital infection after sexual intercourse

A man contracted a rare type of food poisoning in his penis following a bizarre set of circumstances after having “rigorous” sex with his wife. The 38-year-old from Beirut, Lebanon, sought help after discovering he was suffering from redness, swelling and scabbing on his reproductive tract for the better part of a week. A month later, the burning and discomfort had disappeared in the patient and the infection did not recur. The study was published by Annals of Medicine and Surgery, who noted that “this is the first case in the literature describing an entity of this type.”

Doctors added: “In the current case, it is possible that diarrhoea and vomit that contaminated the penis after intercourse are likely the source of the skin infection.”
