JAKARTA – The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) hopes that holding the 10th World Water Forum will pave the way for Indonesia to get cheap electricity, namely through the development of hydroelectric power plants (PLTA).

“With this World Water Forum, we hope that the issue of hydropower (PLTA) can be even bigger, because with water we can get the cheapest electricity,” said the Director General of New, Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (Dirjen EBTKE) of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Eniya Listiani Dewi in official statement, Saturday (27/4/2024).

Eniya explained that the government has been encouraging the use of water to become a source of electricity in Indonesia. Moreover, Indonesia has extraordinary water resources. Therefore, one of the strategic projects offered by Indonesia to enter the 2024 World Water Forum compendium is hydropower.

Currently, said the former Principal Expert Researcher at the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), the cheapest electricity, around USD 3 cents or below, comes from hydro plants.

Previously, Expert Staff to the Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) for Technology, Industry and the Environment, Endra S Atmawidjaja, said that Indonesia was offering a number of strategic projects to be included in the 2024 World Water Forum compendium in Bali. Starting from irrigation modernization with the World Bank to hydropower.

For information, the 10th World Water Forum has three main processes, namely political, regional and thematic, all three of which will involve various stakeholders. Starting from state leaders, ministers, regional leaders, academics, researchers, to the younger generation who will exchange ideas.
