Revoca Electoral Court Agreement of the INE that limited organization of meetings with judicial candidates

The Electoral Court of the Judicial Branch of the Federation (TEPJF) revoked the INE agreement through which business and civil society bodies were obliged to comply with the requirement of convening more than 50 percent of candidates of the judicial election by developing meetings with such applicants, which affected freedom of expression, the right to information and the informed vote.

The Citizen Power Organization promoted a challenge against this agreement, which was favorable with the determination of the TEPJF Superior Chamber, said the president of the group, Gabriela Sterling.

As he said, the determination will leave a precedent for future electoral processes, although for the purposes of the one that passes “it will no longer allow much, since the choice is just around the corner”, in reference to the process next Sunday, June 1.

The TEPJF Superior Chamber determined that the INE cannot apply the same rules to different figures, Well, each one has different objectives and formats, after it intended to establish the same criteria for debate forums, dialogue tables and meetings.

This comparison affected freedom of expression, the right to information and the informed vote, according to the representative of Citizen Power.

As reported, the INEC Agreement intended to prohibit cameras and business organizations, as well as civil society, giving space in meetings and meetings to those who seek to occupy positions in the Judiciary, by changing the rules of the game and with the current electoral process.

The INE established that one hundred percent of the participants would have to be invitedand that at least he would have to attend 50 percent to forums or meetings, otherwise candidates and groups organized by these meetings could receive a sanction, when the only purpose was to know their experience, trajectory and proposals.
