Respect our dead – what more does Warsaw demand from Kyiv? – 2024-09-17 13:03:44

Warsaw does not make excessive demands on Kiev in historical disputes, and it is too early to “leave history to historians”.

Publika.az Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski said this in an interview with “European Truth”.

Answering the question about the re-escalation of disputes between Poland and Ukraine on historical issues, Sikorski noted that political speculation on these issues should be stopped, but the burial of those killed during ethnic cleansing in Volyn is a Christian duty.

“We don’t want to turn this into politics. But for Poland, this is an acute political issue, because there are descendants of these Poles. The entire population of these areas was deported to the territory of modern Poland. These people have relatives who voted. In the elections, this will be a political issue. The victims of this massacre are Christians. He should be buried like this. That’s all we ask,” he said.

According to him, this issue “cannot be left to the historians” until the exhumation and proper burial.

Sikorsky did not directly answer that the fundamentally different attitude of Poland and Ukraine towards the figures of Stepan Bandera and Roman Shukhevich will become an obstacle for Ukraine’s entry into the EU.

“You’re asking that question, not me. And I’m saying you’re going to need friends. You need them now. You’re going to need them in the EU accession process. And we ask you to respect our dead. I don’t think we’re asking for too much.” “, – said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland.
